The Typography Challenge

Apesar de ainda não ter o meu projecto para o "The Thypography Challenge" em estado que se possa ver, não tenho deixado de trabalhar sobre ele.

Esta foi a minha inspiração e assim que a vi achei a ideia genial, no meu caso, só entrei no desafio porque de imediato soube o que queria fazer:

Uma toalha de mesa inspirada neste papel, e já agora, 4 guardanapos a acompanhar (assim não tenho que estar sempre a tentar descobrir de quem são os guardanapos).

Já comprei o tecido, as tintas e o pincel, e já fiz uma série de estudos sobre a melhor maneira de escrever as palavras a pintar.

A minha ideia é fazer uma toalha de mesa "sopa de letras". O nome condiz com o fim a que se destina a toalha!

A toalha tem cerca de 1,40x1,40m e os guardanapos cerca de 0,35x0,35m. Sobre a toalha vou fazer uma quadrícula em que cada quadrado corresponde ao espaço para uma letra. O mais difícil foi definir o tamanho da quadrícula, depois de algumas contas achei que ficava bem fazer uma quadrícula de 2,5x2,5 cm: cheguei à conclusão que teria cerca de 3250 quadrados!!! se em cada quadrado estiver 1 letra....já viram o que me espera.

Fiz outras experiências e acho que o melhor é aumentar a quadrícula para o dobro: 5x5cm, assim já só fico com 840 quadrados.

Também acho que pintar uma letra em cada quadrado não é a melhor solução pois vai tornar a leitura muito confusa, e muito dificilmente se encontram as palavras escondidas (e não há orçamento para a tinta que resista!!!)

Outra questão do problema era quais as palavras a incluir. Inicialmente pensei em escrever "Bom apetite" em várias línguas, mas como não é 1 mas 2 palavras, fica o problema do espaço em branco, por isso optei por escolher palavras de alimentos pratos que sejam do agrado cá de casa. Depois digo quais aquelas que foram escolhidas.

Por isso, o que estou a pensar em fazer é seleccionar algumas palavras e só escrever essas não enchendo a toalha de letras que não fazem palavras.

Despite I still not have my "The Thypography Challenge" project in a stage that I can see it, I haven't stopped working on it.

This was my inspiration and when I saw it, I immediately consider it a great idea. In my case,  only entered this challenge because I knew what I wanted to do:

A tablecloth inspired on this wrapping paper, and also 4 napkins (so I don't have to be constantly trying to find out who owns which napkins).

I already bought the fabric, ink and brush, and i've done some studies on the best way to write the words to paint.

My idea is to make a "Alphabet soup" tablecloth, The name fits with the purpose.  The tablecloth os about 1,40x1,40 m and the napkins around 0,35x0,35 m. To do that, I defined a grid where each square is the space for a letter. The most difficult thing was to set the size of the grid, after some studies I though about a 2,5x2,5 cm grid, I realize immediately that I would have about 3250 squares (= 3250 letters) you can imagine what was waiting for me...
After other experiments I think the best is to do the grid with 5x5 cm and I'll get about 840 squares. I also decided not to paint a letter in each square cause it would make the idea very confused an difficult to find the right words in the meddle of it ( and I don't have that many ink to do it).
Another question was which words to include, Initially I thought I'd write "Good appetite" in different languages, but since it s not one word but 2, I have a blank space between problem, so I decided to choose food dishes and ingredients of our preference around here. Later I'll show you the chosen ones.
Next job is to select a few words and decide where to paint them in the tablecloth.
About the napkins, along with the selected ingredients and dishes words, I'll also include our family members names.
Tomorrow my mother will help me with the sew cause I don't knowhow to do it (t's our little secret).
